Durack, a member of the West Australian Parliament, in supporting Mr Harwell's proposal to employ coloured labour in the Northern Territory, suggests that alien or indentured labour should be tried for a period of 25 years north of the nineteenth parallel, a percentage of those indentured to be repatriated every five years, and all by the end of 25 years. ' A MINERS’ MANIFESTO. SWEEPING DEMANDS OUTLINED. SYDNEY, January 17. The Council of the Miners’ Federation has issued a manifesto stating that an early effort should be made to secure a six-hour day and a five-day week; also the abolition of the contract system, a fortnight’s holiday on full pay annually, an, effective voice in the executive, the control of the industry, And a number of other sweeping demands, with nationalisation as the final objective. SYDNEY’S DIVORCE LIST. SYDNEY, January 17. The divorce petitions in New South Wales last year totalled 1353, compared with 1430 in the previous rear, which was a record. EARTH TREMORS REPORTED.
