AQUATICS.

' KAVENSBOUR-NE BOATING CLUB. The first club races for the present season were held on Saturday, when a hard nor'easter was blowing, causing/all competing' yachts to close reef.' Kean interest was dieplayed by the large number of spectators. Owing to the Port Club holding races on the I same date, entries were smaller than usual. Messrs Grant, Boawell, and Oardno were the officials for the day, and carried out all arrangements in a satisfactory manner. The following started in , the yacht race: —Myro, Annis, May, Viking, Minnow, with 'the following result: May (24min), finishing time 4hr 31min Bsec, •' Aunts (lmin), finishing time 4hr 35min olsec, 2. • Myro (ecr), finishing time 4hr 37min 15eec, 3. ■ Minnow (21min), finishing time 4hr 40min 38sec. • Viking (2imin), did, not finish. OTAGO ANNUAL REGATTA. A meeting of the committee of the Otago Annual Regatta was held in . the Council I Chambers, Port Chalmers, last night, Mr J. M'D. Stevenson presiding. The secretary reported that the swimming association had agreed to put on a programme of swimming and diving items at the regatta, and that the association's officials were prepared to carry out these arrangements provided the committtee supplied the • necessary punts, etc. It was resolved that the association be thanked for agreeing to put on swimming events, and that Mr It. Miller be appointed to assist it in carrying out the arrangements. Ten pounds ten shillings is bo allotted for prize money. ■ . t It was resolved: to include 1 dinghy races (12ft and under) for boys 16 years or under, to be'sailed in the basin. The matter was left in the hands of the Course Committee. The prizes are to be trophies. , The Sailing Committee submitted the following courses for the races. First olass yachts will sail four times round the mark (a buoy this side of Pulling Point); second clißs /yachts three time round the first class course 1 ; 14-footers three times round Grassy Point buoy; and the open iSailing race twicej round the 14-footers' course. The following will be the office-bearers: Judges: Rowing—Messrs 0. Braithwaite/ W. H. Priest, T. D. Kesteven., 0. Hagan, J. James, W. J. Renwick; -tailing and motoring—Messrs E. Knewstubb, C. G. Smith, D. Wall, A. D. Airier, J. Morgan. Umpire, Mr W. H. Priest. Starters—rowing, Mr W. Morgan; sailing and motoring, Mr R. S. Tonkinson. 'Handicappers— Motors,. Mr A. Welch: sailing, Mr A. D. Asher. Timekeepers—Rowing, Mr W. H. Priest; sailing and motoring—Messrs F. Percy and_ T. Anderson. New Zealand Rowing Association representative (association to appoint). Following are the class colours:—First class yachts, blue; second class yachts, red; K-footers. red. white, and red motors; and boys' sailing races, white. , 'The Railway Department wrote stating that it was putting on a special train at 11.30 a.m. in addition to those on the ordinary timetable, and will • reply later with respect to the royalty. It was left to the chairman, deputy chairman, and sec"retary to wait upon the Railway Department: • ;; ; The Invercargill Racing Club wrote stating that it hoped to send crews to the regatta, and inquiring with respect to the accommodation. Mr W. F. Edmond wrote accepting the position of vice-commodore and enclosing a cheque for £1 Is.—Received with thanks. The Mayor (Mr J. S. Douglas) -wrote accepting appointrhent as patron, Mr T. D. Kesteven wrote accepting appointment as patron and enclosing a cheque for £2 2s.—Received with , thanks. Mr J. Y; Love wrote thanking the committee for his election as vice-commodore, and enclosing a chegue for £1 Is as a dona- ■ tion.—Received witn thanks. It was resolved to include two 14-footer races in the programme for which there will be substantial prizes. - It was also decided., to include a motor bo"'* race for motors '5 h.p. and under.
