The miners in the Nightcaps district who ceased work on December X as a protest against the new award filed by the Arbitration Court commenced work/ on Thursday under the conditions prescribed in the new award, and operations are reported to-be proceeding steadily and Satisfactorily. • The stoppage of work which occurred# at Millerton on January 5 lias “also terminated,, the men resuming yesterday morning. Commenting yesterday upon the general situation so far as the mining industry is concerned, Mr T, .0. Bishop, technical adviser and anting secretary to the New Zealand, Mine Owners’ Association, remarked that the new system evolved under the awards recently filed seemed to he working _ out very satisfactorily, especially considering that the miners had only just changed over from the conditions of the old agreements to those of the new awards. The change over had_ been accomplished by remarkably little friction, and the men were apparently rettling down to work in tho best possible spirit!
