CUSTOMS REVENUE AND BEER DUTY. (Peb United Pbess Association.) WELLINGTON, January 4. The Customs revenue for the first nine months of the financial year totalled £3,926,332. The estimate for the year was £4,900,000, leaving nearly £1,000,000 to be got during the lost quarter. Since, however, 18 months’ dr two years’ supply of spirits was released from bond parlor to the introduction of _ the Tariff Bill, very little revenue from spirits can be expected for some months. For the past calendar year the Customs revenue* totalled £5,728,955, aa against £8,033,342 for 1920, £4,530,094 for 1919, and £3,600,353 for 1918. For the first nine months of 1921-22 it was £250,000 above the estimate for that period. The beer duty revenue to ■dater'is £77,000 below the estimate fox the nine months. Owing, however, to the practical doubling of the duty the revenue in November and December last was roughly £60,000 per month, os against an average of about £25,000 a month in the early part of the year. For the calendar year 1921 the beer duty yielded £393.953, aa compared with £363,596 for 1920, and £337,811 for 1919. - ♦ TIMARU WOOL SALE (Pm United Pbto Association.) ' TIMARU, January 4.
