“I am sending Mr C. T. Haynes, chief sanitary inspector, a first-class Jiat,” said the Hon. C. J. Parr, Minister of Health, at Auckland, “and I ftm sending another one for bis second officer. They are Christmas tokens of my appreciation of the batch of prosecutions and convictions recorded recently in the court against persons for failing to clean up their premises. I want to see more prosecutions, because I believe it is not fair to the shopkeepers and householders who do their best to assist ua in this campaign that other people should be careless about the conditions of their premises and leave garbage about which will provide a harbour for a rat, possibly one infected with plague.” The world’s most valuable stamp collection —that of the late Duke Ferrari do la Henotiere, was finally dispersed by auction sale in Paris. The sales were close upon ona million franca (nominally £40,000), while the total receipts of the sale are stated to be close upon eight million franca (£820,000).
