FATAL ACCIDENT AT QUEENSTOWN.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) QUEENSTOWN, January 1.. An eldorly man named Edmund Fitzgibbon. of Arrow Junction, died at a private nursing institution on Friday last as the result of injuries received through a collision with a motor car on the Frankton road tivo days previously. Deceased frequently drove into Queenstown in a springcart for the purpose of marketing his produce. He was on Iris way homo in.. the afternoon when the mail car from Arrowtown came in sight. The driver of the car says he pulled up and took his right side and deceased is said to have gone to the left. Hovvever, just as the car was up on the springcart the horse swerved in its road and the motor then took the inside of the road. but. both vehicles met. As the result of this deceased was precipitated on to the road, and sustained serious injuries. Ho was brought into Queenstown in a state of collapse by the mailman and taken to Dr W. A. Anderson who found that the injuries consisted of a broken collar bone, wound on the soalp, symptoms of concussion of the brain, and several bruises.

An inquest was held yesterday before the noting coroner (Mr Sutherland, J.P'.), and evidence of identification was given by T. Fitzgibbon, eon of deceased. Dr Anderson, who was also called, detailed'the injuries and stated that he was of opinion that deceased died more or ’ess aa ttte result of concussion. The inquest was adjourned, bill Tuesday week to enable the police to get their witnesses together. The late Mr Fitzgibbon was a very Well known resident of the district. Ho was 79 years of ago and was born at Stannagolden, County Limerick, Ireland. He landed in New Zealahdin the eariy sixties settling in Cardrona in 1862, where he carried on mining. A few years later he removed to Arrow Junction, where ho farmed up to the time of his death. He leaves a wife and family of eight—three eons and five daughters—all grown-up. Two of the latter have gone in for Holy orders and one has taken up the nursing profession. Much sympathy is felt for the family in their sudden bereavement. The funeral took place to-day at Arrowtown.,
