REDUCED SALARIES

POST AND TELEGRAPH OFFICERS’ PROTEST. > 'Pw» United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, December 8. In connection with the salary cut, the North Canterbury branch of the Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association has resolved : In view of the fact that public servants received their increase in salaries at a considerably later date than workers outside the service, this meeting is of opinion that the Government’s intention to cut salaries at the present juncture, while the cost of living has not yet fallen to that point in accordance with our agreement, is tantamount to special taxation of the public servants, who are already carrying their full share of general direct and indirect taxation; and, being strongly of opinion that such method of meeting the financial difficulty prevailing is distinctly an injustice to public servants. we instruct, our executive to insist on the terms laid down by the Uniformity Committee.
