MINING.
Last week the Rising Sun dredge obtained a return of 28oz 6dwt for 188 hours’ work, and the Rise and Shine dredge obtained a return of 21oz 4dwt for 134 hours' dredging. Tho following reports have come to hand:— St. Hippo.—The work in hand has been confined to testing the reef, cutting through the footwall portion. The ore lobks well, and is carrying an excellent class of minerals, and has shown some nice dabs of gold. At present two nice leaders are in thp face and have shown strong colours of gold, which has 1 every appearance of improving.
Hauraki. —The manager telegraphed last week that the 400 ft level was clear of water and work had been resumed. The reef had been. touched in the Welcome Find drive at the 300 ft level. Ohinemuri.—The Silvorstream crosscut has been extended 16ft, and is now out 738 ft. Good country is still being met with. Another email quartz 'stringer was passed through.
Horseshoe.—ln, the Nail section 6ft was driven during last week, and tho rest of the time was spent in laying rails in the No. 2 battery level. It haa been decided that owing to the want of ventilation and tho expense of timbering in tho Battery level going north the crosscut going east is the best course to pursue. , The country here ;is carrying splendid! mineral, similar to that where the Horseshoe reef was cut 25ft back from the face, and 1 provided it maintains its quality should make gold if any reef is met with. Fleming’s and Murphy’s leaders should be intersected provided they live to that depth.
