SAILING OF SOUTHERN CROSS ASSURED. (Peb Dumu Press Association.) WELLINGTON, September 16. In response to tho special appeal made by the Now Zealand Anglican Board of Mis sions on behalf of the Melanesian Mission, the sum of £5690 has been contributed to date. Returns have still to come in from several parishes in different parts of the dominion. The sailing of the Southern Cross is assured, and it is hoped that it will be possible to despatch the vessel from Auckland on Tuesday next, which is the fiftieth anniversary of the martyrdom of Bishop Patteson, of Melanesia.
