Tho Governor-General j s reported to have taken Mr A. S. Elworthy’s fine home at Paroroa, ten miles south of Timaru, for a few months from tho middle of December next.
The Rev. Guy Thornton, well known to returned soldiers as Captain Guy Thornton, has accepted a call to the pastorate of the South Dunedin Baptist Church. Mr H. L. Taploy has been appointed by the Government to fill a vacancy on the South Dunedin Licensing Committee caused by the resignation of Mr E. H. Lough. A London cable states that Miss Catherine Jolliooe, aunt of his Excellency Admiral Lord Jollicoe, has celebrated her hundredth birthclay. Mr A. Burt (of A. and T. Burt, Ltd.) returned to Auckland by the second express on Saturday. Mr R. Breen, who with Mr A. Riach will represent the local Butchers’ Union at the annual conference of the Federated Butchers at Wanganui this week, was a passenger for the north by the second express on Saturday.
The friontja and pupils of Otakou School met last weak to wish their school master, Mr Miller, and their late school mistress, Miss Weaver, much happiness on their return from their honeymoon. They also presented them with a silver tea set suitably inscribed from the friends and pupils of the school,
Mr Wm. MoWrum,” C. 8., C.M.G., D. 5.0., barrister-at-law, has boon appointed coalmines inspector (reports the Westport Times and Star).
Mr A. M'Leod, postmaster, Winton, "will retire shortly after 42 years in the department.
Mrs Peryman, of Carterton, editor of The White Ribbon, has been elected to the seat on the executive of the New Zealand Alliance reticlerd vacant by the death of Mrs A. R. Atkinson.
Mr S. G. Daniel, postmaster at Hastings, who has been in charge of. that office since April, , 1920, will go on leave at the end of this month, prior to his retiring from the service. Ho joined the Post and Telegraph Department at Queenstown in 1880, and in the interval ho was at Dunedin, Invercargill, Gore, Ashburton, Christchurch, Sydenham, Hangiora, tiawera, and Hastings. He will have completed 41 years’ service by next December.
