HOSPITAL BOARD REPORTS
The Hospital Board reports contain the following clauses of interest:—Thirty-eight cases for relief at a weekly cost of £2O 15s 6d were dealt with, casual oases amounting to £303 8s 6d. These have been approved. During the post month II persons have been admitted to, three discharged from, and"'two deaths have occurred at the Otago Benevolent Institution. At present 187 inmates remain. The employment of a seamstress to assist with sewing at the Benevolent Institution from August 1 to August 3 has been, unproved. Referring to the Inquiry from the W-aitaki Hospital Board os to whether that board can depend upon present arrangements fer treatment of consumptive patients from the Waitaki district in the Pleasant Valley Sanatorium, the Sanatorium Committee recommends that a reply be forwarded that the present arrangements will -be continued, provided same does not conflict with tlie Government scheme. The Director ‘Of Training and Surgical Workshops has intimated that the Defence had,decided to discontinue sending ex-soidiers to the Pleasant Valley Sanatorium, ,pnd could not continue to provide instruction in poultry farming at that centre, and that,-Mr Eprosen had been notified that his appointment with that branch would terminate on September 30, 1921. The Medical Director has also advised that the basket and leather work classes have now met for the last time, and that lie would submit d report as to- the question of the board initiating some classes of a similar nature to the next meeting.
