The Daily Chronicle’s Berlin correspondent states that the police have prohibited the reactionary party’s proposed celebrations of the Anniversary of Sedan, which would simply hdve been used for reactionary propaganda, and in the present atmosphere would undoubtedly have been provocative of reaction. The reaction is ' now blackest in Bavaria, where the Central Government’s decides, being challenged or ignored, have been suspended. The Munich newspapers are still appearing. :,The Prussian reactionaries may yet stake their hopes in Bavaria, where the reactionary majority in the Landtag urge a!..,trjal of strength against the Central Government. ERZBERGER MURDER. TWO MORE ARRESTS MADE. LONDON, August 31. The Berlin correspondent of the. Daily Mail reports two further arrests at Heidelberg in connection with the murder of Herr Erzberger. One of the suspects was found to be in possession of 100,000 marks. —A. and N.Z. Cable. SECRET VENGEANCE SOCIETY, ; BERLIN, September 1. (Received Sept. 2, at 10.45 p.m,) ■■ The Democratic Party revealed the plans bf a secret vengeance society, which was discovered shortly before the murder of Herr Erzberger. It was formed by exofficers and members of the security police, and it is alleged that the society has been responsible for the disappearance of Germans accused of betraying the Fatherland. But for the assassination of Herr Erzber,.ger, the society was planning an attack on ’the Government, which had promised an Investigation of propaganda disseminated by a woman known as the witch of Neukoln, owing to her predictions of the restoration of the monarchy.—A. and N.j.
