OTAGO OFFICERS’ CLUB
A general meeting of the Otago. Officers’ Club was held in the Savoy Lounge' last night, lieutenant-colonel Chalmer presiding over a good attendance of officers, which was representative of the various branches of the service.
The Chairman said that the object 'of the meeting was the final confirmation and adoption of the constitution of the club formed at the last 'meeting, and Which had now been approved by _ General Headquarters. After mentioning that ''Colonel 6. W. G. Macdonald and Colonel J. M‘Ara and Captain Crosby Morris had been -appointed trustees of the club property,' the chairman moved that the constitution- an approved at the last meeting be; adopted.-rr Thi motion was carried. - i- 1 Considerable 1 discussion followed on the advisability of_ increasing the pumber op. the executive in order to include reproson,-. tatives of all branches of the service,. , A number of apologies were read., j ’ , The election of officers for _ the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President,Colbifid E. R. Smith; vice-president) Colonel. . J," . H. Moir: secretary and treasurer. Colonel G. Barclav; executive —Maiors F. 'H. Dampen, W. Wjird, H. E. Barrowclough, Captains I. W. Cowie, and J. B. Callan.; auditor. Lieutenant-colonel T. Chalmer. Captain H. L. Taplev brought up the matter of a central position for a olubroom. The Chairman said mat it had been explained at the last meeting, .but the committee had not been, successful" in, obtaining a room so far. _ Even if a room was available, the Kensington Drill Hail was not e. Suitable position for the club. The; refita!; however, in the. town was most excessive; In conclusion, the chairman expressed'the hope that the new constitution-would .pjadt the beginning of a very useful and,prosperous club.—(Hear, hear.) . At the last meeting a wish was expressed that the chib would be able to entertain the Governor-general, Lord Jelliooo', but on this visit the proposal was not possible as time did not permit. However, as tjie Governor would probably visit Dunedin in February, it was hoped to .entertaipj.him, then. ...'j'"' Colonel Smith said that the club hijo, nfit met for some years as the men were aljseftt at the war. He hoped that interesting and instructive evenings would be held "in a successful future. ' - •' -
On the appointment of Colonel Barclay to the position of secretary and treasurer his services were eulogised, the colonel suit- • ably responding. , Captain Tapley moved, and Colonel Smith seconded, that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to Lieutenant-colonel Chaimer for his interest in the club; and for his pafet services as president.—Carried by acclamfftion. - .ijtic.dFf-'t-'' d A vote of thanks was also accorded to Captain H.
