WAIPIRO BAY FIRE
(Pxb United Press Association.) GISBORNE, August 15. A fire at Waipiro Bay destroyed the premises of Kirk (storekeeper) and Gnrrcnton (baker), the only businesses except the hotel, billiard room, and smithy which survived the fire of July 29. when damage to the extent of £29,000 was caused. The insurances in the present case amount to £4OOO. About £I4OO worth of Kirk's stock was salvaged by a bucket brigade.

A simple new cure for neuralgia is described by the Presse Medicale (Pans). It was discovered by Dr W. Janowski, who found that repeated pressure on the affected nerve where it comes out from the skull is an effectual remedy. Dr Janowski holds the patient’s head firmly against his own chest while he presses with his first finger on the nerve at its point of emergence. Pressure is kept up for only one second, and, with intervals of one second, it is repeated about 10 times at each sitting.
