It will be placed in the Church of the Madonna Pompeii at Naples. It will burn continuously for 13 years. The Acting-Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa, replying to a deputation of farmers from Pretoria, who predicted a black outlook for the grain industry, refused to entertain a. proposal for a moratorium or a stoppage of gold export. It is officially stated in Tokio that the century-old rule prohibiting cheering and applause for a member of the Imperial House will be abrogated on the occasion of the home-coming of the Crown Prince. The official English translation of the Imperial Household announcement says: “People lining the Imperiail route are asked to clap their hands and to give cheers, disregarding all the old customs.’’ The authorities are making the return of the Prince an occasion to institute numerous democratic innovations, including probable permission for the press to board the Imperial ship and to travel in the Imperial train. Admiral Kato, commandant of the Japanese Naval Staff College, and leader of the naval mission to America and Europe recently, has been chosen naval delegate to the Washington Conference. Giving evidence before a Select Committee on Agriculture, the New South Wales Raihvavs Commissioner stated that in order to assist the primary producers, freight rates for some commodities had been reduced to such an extent that they were insufficient to cover- expenses. The Victorian Athletic Association reiected by 27 votes to 3 a proposal bv the Queensland Association, who sought endorsement of its action in reinstating Postle as a professional sprinter.
