MANCHESTER UNITY.

A large attendance greeted N.G. Bro. Jos. Hay at the adjourned summoned meeting of Loyal Tapanui Lodge. The halfyearly balance sheet was belore the mooting. This was favourably commented upon, disclosing as it did a highly satisfactory state of affairs. Throe new members were initiated and one other proposed for membership. Members generally are keen to secure the efficiency shield, quite a number travelling many miles to attend their lodge. ’P.G. Bro. R. Duff, Outram, and P.G.P. Thomson, Hand and Heart, responded to the customary toast. N.G. Bro. Bews presided over the usual meeting of Loyal of Wales Lodge, Port Chalmers. The attendance was good, routine business being tran.tvied. The lodge adjourned to enable P.C. Bro. J. Emerson to carry out his evening, which took the form of a euchre tourney. This was much enjoyed, P.G. Bros. Campbell and Kemp securing the prizes, the booby prize being annexed by the N.G. Functions of this nature have become a feature with the lodge, and are proving an incentive to members to attend regularly.

After conducting ordinary business Loyal Hand and Heart, at the meeting on August 2, adjourned to enable the officers of the Past Grand Lodge to conduct the half-* yearly post officers and purple degree meeting. P.G. Bro. W. J. Hutton occupied the Master's chair during the confirming of the minor degrees, Prov. C. S. Bro. A. Sligo recording. The degrees were conferred by P.G.’s Bros. M'Curdy and Henderson and P.P.G.M. Bro. Russell respectively. For the purple degree P.G. Bro. M’Curdy assumed control. The candidates were conducted by P.P.G.M. Bro. A. M’Dougall and P.G. Bro. Longworth, obligated by P.P.G.M. Bro. W. Fleming, and afterwards addressed by P.G. Bro. Hutton in the usual manner. P.P.G.M. Bro. Russell giving the exhortation. Those conducting the ceremony were afterwards thanked for the able and efficient manner in which the respective degrees were conferred. A motion of sympathy with P.G. Bro. S. W. Raflils, who is laicl aside with a severe illness, was carried. Another splendid gathering of members took place at the usual meeting of Loyal Toko Juvenile branch. The membership is increasing by leaps and bounds, due largely to the energetic committee, which caters for the amusement of members. It was “Hard Up” night on this occasion, and, judging by the grotesque costumes worn, members entered fully into the spirit of the proceedings. Duo probably to counter attractions, the attendance at the usual mooting of Loyal Milton was considerably below the average. The only item outside the usual business was three propositions for membership. The lodge has now a membership of 300, and is very proud of the fact. Arrangements for the annual social, to be hold this month, are well in hand, and this function promises to eclipse its predecessors.

The usual meeting of Loyal Dunedin Lodge was held on August 4, N.G. Bro. Timms presiding over a full attendance of officers and members. Several matters of interest wore discussed. One candidate was proposed for membership. A number of brethren signified their intention of being present at the unveiling ceremony in the Loyal Outram Lodge on August 20. The N.G. of Loyal Centenary responded to the toast of visiting brethren.
