WELCOME SOCIAL

The congregation of St. Andrew’s Church entertained Miss Annie I. James, one of their own missionaries who has just returned on furlough from Canton, China, ait a welcome social in the Waddell Hall on Wednesday evening. The Rev. Hector Maclean, presided over a large gathering, which included many representatives of the Foreign Missions Committee of the Presbyterian Church. After Miss James had been cordially welcomed back by Mr Maclean, the esteem and goodwill of various organisations and their pleasure at Miss James’s return was expressed by Mr P. L. Clark (for the Foreign Missions Committee), Mr W. Gow (St. Andrew’s Session), Mrs D. H. Rogers (Women’s Missionary Union), Mr J. Newlands (Kensington Branch Church), Mr A. C. Cameron (St. Andrew's Mission Committee), Miss M’Queen (Young Women’s Bible Class), Mr W. M’Queen (Young Men’s Bible Class), Mr J. Farquharson (St. Andrew’s Bible School), and) Miss Betty Henderson (“Busy Bees”). Two juniors, Doris Taylor and George Kerr, also welcomed. Miss James end presented her with bouquets of flowers. Miss James returned thanks in an interesting and effective speech. The proceedings were pleasantly varied by a programme to which Misses Findlay and Beil contributed a vocal dtuet, Misses Boeching and MolKson a piano duet, Mr A. G. Johnson a song, and Miss M. Park a recitation. Miss E. Williamson acted as accompanist. The formal part of the proceedings was over early, and an enjoyable social hour was spent over supper.
