“SOCIETY SECRETS”

Eva Novak, whose beauty and dramatic ability charmed tneatregoers in ’’The Torrent," will appear at the Octagon Theatre to-night in her latest Universal photodrama, “Society Secrets.” The story is widely different in type from her first successes, and demonstrates that Miss Novak is one of the foremost interpreters of both comedy and emotion on the screen. "Society Secrets” was written by Helen Christine Bennett as a magazine story, was adapted to the screen by Douglas Doty, and was directed by Leo M’G’aiey. In the production Miss Noyak plays the role of a fashionable Now York girl who educates her fiance’s small town parents up to a level that will be acceptable to her snobbish aunt, and by her sincere democracy teaches the children of the old folks a bitter lesson. Heart interest, delightful humour and brilliant strokes of drunaatio intensity are the outstanding features of this tharming story which is sure to establish a firmer bond between the old and the young generations. The work of Gertrude Claire as the old mother, and of George Berrell os the father, parallels in dramatic force and heart appeal the characterisation of the modern city girl by Eva Novak, and will add to the reputation of these two well-known character players for understanding interpretations of difficult roles. The other feature of the programme is “The Stolon Kiss.” n five-reel story after the style of “Anne of Green Gables.” The Springbok picture will be shown in addition.
