LAND BOARD.

The regular meeting of the Otago Land Board was held yesterday, and was attended by die Commissioner (Mr R. T. Sadd), Messrs T. A. Munro, J. Smith, C. J. Inder, and G. Livingstone. Messrs Wright, Watson, and Harrington applied for permission to lay a tramline on iahakopa River reserve, trom section 4, block XIV, Rimu S.D., for about eight chains, and to bridge the river.—License granted for seven years under section 207 of the Land Act, at a rental of 5s per annum. The disposal of section 5, block IV, education reserve, town of Balclutha, was submitted for consideration.—To be leased for a term of 21 years, with right of renewal; to be offered at auction; upset rental, 10s per annum Edward Jas. lies applied for a license over an area adjoining 9b, block I, Cromwell survey district. —License under section 130 of the Act granted, at a rental of 10s per annum, under the usual conditions. The board was requested to authorise the receiver of land revenue to pay to the parties entitled the valuation paid for fencing on section 39. block X, Maruwenua S.D.—Receiver authorised accordingly. The board was requested to authorise the receiver of land revenue to refund to H. Muldrew the sum of £57 Iss, being valuation for fencing on section 36, block X, Maruwenua S.U., paid by D. L. Weir.Receiver authorised accordingly. G. B. Tolmic, lessee of section 2 of 15 (education reserve), block 1, Moeraki, containing 25 acres, stated that it contained no water, and applied for a license over section 35, block XVT, Moeraki town, on which there is a permanent spring.—License refused ; Mr Tolmie to bo allowed to fence the spring, subject to his putting in a trough to connect with the spring for the benefit of residents watering stock; work to be under the inspection of the ranger. Mr John C. Edmondston applied for 10£i more land on the east side of present miscellaneous license on the foreshore at Moeraki.— Area to bo added to the present license, the rent of which was increased to lbs per annum. Ranger O’Neill forwarded a revised valuation of improvements on section 15S, Clifton Settlement.-—Section to be withdrawn from auction, and reoffered with valuation for improvements. £378 4s. , Mr A. J. Brown, who holds a miscellaneous license over section 25, block I, Waitahuna West district, applied to be relieved of the lease.—Surrender accepted as from July 11, provided rent was paid up to that date.

At the meeting of the board on the 13th ultimo an application by Richard P. Jones for section 4S, Melville Park Settlement, area 7 acres 2 roods, was approved. The applicant had been given notice on two occasions to pay the required deposit, and had failed to do so.—Approval of application rescinded.

With regard to section BS, Wairuna Settlement, 495 acres, formerly held by Joseph Carson, now available for disposal, it was resolved that the section be opened for selection by the general public, and proclamation setting apart the section lor selection by discharged soldiers revoked. Renewal of perpetual lease Xo. 861 over section 18, block IX, Catlins (lessee. Thomas James Cookl. —Renewal granted for a further term of 21 years, at an annual rental of £9 16s. Mrs I. Oarruthers, who holds a miscellaneous lease of section 62, block IV, Hillend, desired to arrange an exchange with S. T. Soper, owner of ports of section 31 and 32. —Exchange to be arranged, subject to licensee paying survey fees. It was reported that W. Kennedy, lessee of section 3S, Poplar Grove Settlement, had abandoned the section. —To show cause within one month why the lease should not be declared forfeited.

Catherine Barr applied for license to occupy an area in blocks XVIII and XIX. Tuapeka East Survey District, for grazing purposes. —License granted at a rental of £3 per annum. Mr A. L. Dabinette applied for a license over an island in the Clutha River, opposite sections 10, 11, and 12, block IX, Inohclutha district. —License granted at 30s per annum.

Mr G. J. Steven, who holds sections 13S and 235, Clifton Settlement, under deferred payment license, applied for a license to occupy section 265, Dip Reserve, and section 25S. —License granted at a rental of 10s per annum on the usual conditions. Mr John Christie applied for an extension of time to commence sawmilling operations on part section 52, block VII, Woodland district. —Extension granted until October 20. Messrs Goss and Co. applied for the cutting rights over section 32, block X, Woodland district.—Consideration adjourned. The beard was requested to accept surrender of small grazing run lease No. 573 over run 223, Lauder district, and to authorise the issue of a new lease in lieu thereof over this run, showing the correct area.— Surrender accepted; a new lease to issue. Philip Spcnco Blackader Bott had failed to reply to memoranda requesting him to forward his license so that the correct area could be inserted, and had failed to pay the rent (£1) due on May 13, 1921. —License cancelled. Ranger O’Neill submitted a report on sections 5,6, 7, and 17, block V, Town of Balclutha, Education Reserves. —License offered to F S. Wilkins at a rental of £4 per annum. George Kirk applied for a grazing license ovefr sections 6 and 7. block XII, Warepa Survey District.—License granted at a rental of £2 per annum, on the usual conditions. Mr W. J. Shear, who holds grazing license over section 15, block X, Hillend, 197 acres 0 roods 37 poles, at a rental of £3 10s per annum, applied to relinquish his holding and the Department of Agriculture had no objection on the score 'of rabbits. —Area to be re-offered at £2 per annum. Mr A. L. Phaser, licensee of section 31S, Toviot Settlement, applied to purchase hut on wheels on sections 26>S, —Held over. The following applications to transfer were approved;—Part section 22, block VIII, Tautukn, 15 acres, Isaac Hurring to William David F. King (subject, to revision of rent). Section 18, block 78, Town of Oamaru. 1 rood, Percy Charles Street to Emily Brook. Transfer of section 13, block VII, Town of Lawrence, 1 rood, John Cameron to John Burke Crowley.—Ranger to report. Applications for Land and Timber.—Section 7S, Poplar Grove Settlement, Mary Ann Tyler, 5a 3r lip, r.l.s. —Approved. Section BS, Poplar Grove Settlement, John Podofsky, 7a 3r lip, r.l.s.—Refused. The board was asked whether it would consider an application by George Renwick for a special tenure lease over sections 7s and Bs, Poplar Grove Settlement.—Left in the bands of the commissioner.

The following applications were approved;—Section 13s, Poplar Grove Settlement (70a 3r 23p), John Charles Trotter. Sections 9, 10, block XIX, Tiger Hill (73a Ir 09p and 196 a 2r), John Robt. Clare. Mr George Bowton Gilchrist applied for an occupation lease under Part Till of the Land Act over an area between section 95 and part 96, block I, Toviot district ami the Clutha River.—Granted subject to sur vey; capital value 15s per acre, with a minimum rental of £1 per annum. Mr Win. F. Craigie, owner of section 7, block HI and o.r.p. license of section 3, block VIII, Woodland district, applied to bo allowed to select section 4, block VIII, Woodland district.—Refused.

Mr John Gillespie applied to purchase an area of about 1 acre between section 73, block XII, and the road, Lower llawea district.—Area to be surveyed in two sections, and offered at auction at an upset of £5 per section. Mr Daniel O’Connell applied for section I6s, Poplar Grove Settlement (5a 2r 16p, r.l.s.—Approved. Mr L. IL Williams stated it was his desire to acquire the leasehold of section 90, block IX, Leaning Hock district.— Approved, subject to formal application being lodged. Mr Robt. Win. Duncan applied for sections 22, 51, block 111, Glenomaru (201 a 2r).— Approved; subject to the payment of £ls, valuation for improvements. Mr Geo. Martin applied for a renewal of occupation lease of section 53, block 111, Blackstone. —Renewal granted for a further term of 21 years, from January 1. 1922, at a rental of 10» per annum. In re residence conditions on section 59. block IV, Greenvale, held by Miss Harris as lessee under r.l. 13, v.b.a.—To show cause within one month why lease should not bo forfeited. Mr Jas. Wm. Miller applied to purchase the fee simple of section 11, block XVI, Shotover district, held by him under lease in perpetuity.—Approved. The umpire in the arbitration case submitted his valuation of s.g.r. 416, Ncnfhom and Strath-Taicri districts; licensee, Adam S, Macaulay Hoard to determine the rent.—Rent fixed at 3 per cent, of capital value. Mr John Tohill applied for a lease under section 4 of the Discharged Soldiers Act, 1915. over part section 106. block VI IT. Leaning Rook district, adjoining section 103, block VIII. -Granted; capital value, 35s per acre; subject to survey. The Lauriston Timber Company, Ltd., applied to have part sections 1,2, 14, and 15, block I, and sections 5, 6. and 7, and part section 8, block 11. Tnutnku fvT) . added to its reserve area Inr sawmilling purposes.—Referred to ranger for report Mr and Mrs Thomas Carruthers applied for a lease of section 13s, Poplar Grpve Settlement —Refused.
