Hie Governor-General opened the Returned Soldiers’ Club at Christchurch yesterday (says a Press Association telegram). The Rev. Dr Waddell leaves next week on a visit to the Pacific Islands. Mr J. C. M'Gcorge and Mr R. C. Jones (of Turnbull and Jones, Ltd.) were passengers by the second express yesterday for the West Coast, travelling as far as Dcnniston. A Wellington Press Association telegram says that advice has been received that*, Mr H. W. Laver, manager of the Bank of New South Wales, Wellington, has been appointed acting inspector, vice Mr B, C. Molincaux (deceased). Mr A. J. M‘Kay, late assistant inspector, has been appointed acting manager at Wellington. A tragically sudden death occurred yesterday (says a Press Association wire from Wellington) of Mr William S. Espie, a wellknown Wellington resident and traveller for Johnston and Co. lie expired in the vestibule of the Commercial Travellers’ Club while talking to some friends. The cause of death was heart failure. The death occurred yesterday of Mr William Bnwllov, a well-known resident of the Waiau district, at the ago of 70 years (wires our Invercargill eorrespondont). Ho was the owner of the Belmont Estate, at Mangipiri. Mr Bradley was born at North Shields, Newcastle-on-Tyno, in 1852. When one year old he came out to Victoria with his parents in the shin Marco Polo. Ln 1862 Mr Bradley crossed to New Zealand under engagement to the late Mr T. C. Ellis to manage (ho Merriovale Estate for Messrs J.-* C. and T. C. Ellis. Later, when the estate was being cut. up Mr Bradley secured the homestead block. He was one of the pioneer settlors of the Waiau district, and was oiio of the founders of the Wallace A. and P. Association, of which ho remained a director until the time of his death, occupying the presidency for two years, ?Ar Bradley was also one of the original members of the Eastern Bush School Committee, and a steward of the Clifdgn Racing Club.
