STEAMSHIP COMPANY NOT LIABLE. (Per United Puess Association.) WELLINGTON, August 10. A claim against the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company for £SO for the loss of a cabin trunk and contents, consigned from Wellington to Westport, was heard to-day. The plaintiff booked from Liverpool to Wellington and back. The passenger ticket issued had a clause undertaking to forward a specified quantity of luggage to Westport. The defence contended that the journey from Liverpool to Wellington was governed by Engljsh law, and the coastwise journey by New Zealand law. The defendants were not liable for the loss of the luggage beyond £lO, unless the value was declared, and extra freight paid. This had not been The magistrate concurred, and gave judgment for defendants.
