CIYIT CATS AND DTKA EGGS A very interesting and, it must be admitted, unique exhibit now being displayed in the windows of Messrs Penrose and Co., George street, is an African rug made by the natives of Dyka skins inlaid with skins of Civit Cats. This rug is one of two brought to Now Zealand by Captain George Prictor, wl>o is now retired from the army after seeing service in the Boer and “Great” wars. According to the captain the rugs ho has brought over are prepared by the native boys, whoso religious belief will not permit them to skin any animal long dead, the result being that with newly killed skins and the aid of a secret preparation of their own, they are enabled to render the tanned product lustrous with the natural gloss of the live animal. Another advantage appertaining to these rugs : s that they are sewn, not with perishable cotton thread, but with gut and sinew. The exhibits are well worth inspection. This rug is very well lined, and is priced at £l6 10s. W. * CO.. GEORGE STREET. —Advt.
