CITY POLICE COURT

Wednesday, August 10. (Before Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M.) Disorderly Behaviour.—James • Kennedy Weir, a youth, ID years of ago, wa 8 brought before the court on a charge oi disorderly behaviour on the railway station platlorm on Tuesday afternoon. From the statement made it appeal's that accused rushed on to the station platform, jostled the crowd, and caught a young lady round the neck, throwing her up against a stationary railway carriage. He then maclo off. pursued fiy a constable, and was locked up. The young lady who suffered the indignity became lost in the crowd. The young man had apparently been drinking.—ln reply to the Magistrate, Senior Sergeant Lowin stated tnat Weir had told him that a cousin of his had come into town, bringing with him a bottle of whisky, and had given him a drink. Weir had further stated that he hud never tasted drink previously.—The Magistrate remarked that that was "bosh. 11 —Accused said it was perfectly true- he had never drank intoxicating liquor before.—Ho, was convicted, and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon anv time during the next 12 months, his Worship saying that it was lucky the young man had not to answer a charge of assault. Maintenance. —Harold Petrie applied for a variation of a maintenance order in respect of hi s two children; requiring him to pay 17s 6d a week for each child. —Petrie stated that his earnings and expenses did not permit of his keeping up the payments under tho order—Tho Rev. V. G. Bryan King strongly opposed the application on behalf of/the man’s wife, and challenged the accuracy of tho statements made by applicant, as to his living expenses, liabilities, and general conduct; averring that there was another woman in (he case. He produced a letter written by applicant, in proof.—Accused said ho had written tho letter compromising himself at the request of his wife, who wished to obtain a divorce. —His Worship said ho could not believe that, thought it might be true —Applicant said it was true, and alleged that his wife ■was “keeping company” with another man. l —The application wap refused, his Worship declining to accept the statement made by Petrie.
