SCHOOL COMMITTEES
The regular meeting- of the Port Chalmers School Committee was held last evening, and was presided over by the Kev. W. M. Grant (chairman). The rector re? ported that for the past four weeks the average roll in the primary department was 470, and the average attendance 425. In the secondary department the average roll was 45, and the average attendance 41. The attendance shield was won twice by (Standard iv, with & per cent, and 92 per cent, once by Standard VI with 95 per cent., and once Standard 111 and Standard V tied with 94 per cent. each. The Education Board hau sent down a photograph of the Prince of Walea with an autographed copy of the letter to the school cnildren, and a number of copies of the letter without the autograph. Miss Smith had been ordered by the, doctor to go into the country for a month. Mr Gordon Taylor was relieving to the school. The heater had been in use a good deal during the month, and had given satisfaction. The janitor reported tfyat a number of small repairs had been attended to by the board’s workmen, and that the truck of coal ordered had arrived and had been carted to the school. The Visiting Committee reported having visited the senool and having found everything, very satisfactory. The clerk was instructed to write to the rector and staff complimenting them on the very excellent report received from the inspector. Messrs J. Howden and J. Osborn were appointed a Visiting Committee for the month.
The monuily meeting of the Forbury School Committee was held on Monday night, Mr P. Johnson in the chair, the other members present being Messrs C. A. Lucas, W. Fleming, A. Poulter, J. Roberts, G. A. Munro, W. Pullar, C. Gillisnd, and the headmaster (Mr Eudy). The average attendance for, past month was 691. The number on the roll at present is 764. The amount deposited in the savings bank for the same period amounted to £32 17s lOd, and the withdrawals to £2 8s Id, leaving a balance of £282 11s lOd. Dr M'Crendy and the school nurse were, present at the school from July 19 to July 22. Mr T. E Eggleton wrote resigning his position ah fourth assistant, having received a position in a Christchurch school. The Education Board wrote that Miss Ford, the new infant miastress, would commence duties on September 1. Mr A. Poulter reported having visited the school during the month.
