A conference of the parties in the City Abattoirs Dispute was held to-day on a summons by the Industrial Commissioner, following the union’s application for an interpretation of the award in regard to the cutting up of carcases. The City Council disputed the union’s position, but the commissioner held that an attempt had been made by the union to settle the matter; therefore, he was in a position to deal with it, but required evidence. As Uio manager of the Abattoirs was in hospital, the proceedings were adjourned.
WELLINGTON, August 9. In response to a publio request, the Mayor (Mr R. A. Wright) has made inquiries with regard to- wnen the State Fi- j Insurance Office" proposes to pay a bonus to its clients. He has received a reply from the Hon. G. J. Anderson, Minister in charge of the Department, stating that the question has been under consideration for some time. He hoped that at an early date the matter would be satisfactorily arranged. The Wellington Provincial Industrial Association decided to-night to hold a tariff exhibition at tho Wellington Town Hall from October 22 to November 5. Tho date of the combined New Zealand Industries Exhibition, promoted by the Wellington industrial Association and 'the Wellington Trades and Labour Council, was indefinitely postponed. The president of the Association stated that the success 6f tho tariff exhibition was assured by the applications for space which had already been received.
