GRAND AND PLAZA THEATRES
A complete change of programme was made at the Grand and Plaza Theatres yesterday, and the new series contains a diversity of interests sufficient to appeal to the tastes of all sections of picture 'overs. “ The Cheater Reformed ” is one of the principal subjects of this highly meritorious series, and it is one of the strongest and most powerful dramas which has been seen at these two theatres for a considerable time. William Russell is featured in the leading role, and the plot deals with a somewhat curious situation, a woman’s husband having been killed and Ids place having been taken by an imposter in the person of his twin brother. The other outstanding picture of the series is a story of Now York’s underworld, entitled “ When the Devil Laughs,” and in which Louise Lovely plays the principal part. In the highly dramatic stor- Mips Lovely plays the part of a girl thief, and, although a criminal, she gains the sympathy and goodwill of the audience right from the start. “ When the Devil Laughs ” is built around underworld characters, and has a pnnular theme—the reformation of two crooks through love and suffering. There are many exciting scenes in the course of the unfolding of the plot, notably the tenement fire, in wbieb Miss Lovely and the lead dig man (William Scott) leap from the window of a burning tenement into a fire net. _ Additional interest and attractiveness is lent by a number of other well varied pictures, including a now ep'sndo if the “ King of the Circus” serial. The same programme will be screened again to-day.
