NEW ZEALAND TEAM AT PRACTICE. All the members of the New Zealand ‘team with the exception of the full-back, Kingston, who will arrive this evening, assembled for practice at Tahuna Park yesterday afternoon. The becks were under the charge of Mr W. J. Stead, and the forwards were coached by Mr A. M‘Donald. The players engaged in passing, scrummaging, etc., and had a good try-out.

SOUTH AFRICAN TEAM. : ' The ■ Springboks will be given a civic reception at the Octagon Hall at 12.30 to-day.

THE OFFICIAL PROGRAMME. . Tlie official programme, which is being issued by the New Zealand Rugby Union, contains t,.e whole of the South African players, with a number opposite each P-ayer a name. As, however, the teams to play m each match are not procurable for publication the spectator lias the privilege as the Springboks file out on to the ground’, of trying to nick up their numbers, and then ticking off the corresponding numbers on the programme. He thus arrives at the ’ composition of the team—that is, if he has quick eyesight and can read the numbers before the men get into action. The’ manner of discovering the (team is therefore, as can be easily seen a rather precarious one. When, however, the numbers are becoming hardly discernable through exposure 'to rain, mud, and weather 1 the problem of discovering the composition of . e Springboks’. team becomes, exasperatmg. The official guides are sold at la' eaoli Fifteen new numbers now and again would cost but a few slnllings, and those whocoiK' • trql the publication of the guide should .in common fairness see that they are proourtA; The Otago team will be printed on -a- , separate sheet, and inset into the guide. The . actual guide, however, is printed iu Wellington.

FRENCH RUGBY TEA*!. " TOUR OF AUSTRALASIA. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, August 8. (Received Aug. 8, at 5.5 p.m.) , The French Rugby team for Australasia will sail on May 15 calling at South Africa, where two games will be played. The , party, which consists of 30 military and,, civilians, will return on September 3Q, J 922, via America, playing two games in fornia and Canada.—A. and N.Z. Cable. ',,, THE TEST MATCH BOOKING. ' TO THI EDITOR. Sih, —There hats been a considerable amount of comment during the past week concerning the sale of reserved seats for the forthcoming test match. I should like to mention a few facts which have come under my notice. One lady I met, prodtifcetf for my benefit reserves for four seats at ■ least a week before the booking was opened ' to the public. Another person whom I know obtained four seats in the same ‘ manner. Other instances of, the same thing-* are quite common. In the latter caie 'the 1 ' owner extracted the tickets from his pbCkefc ' with a dramatic flourish, and said. “ What ' do you think of these?” Well. Sir. I must admit that I do not know what to think, How is it that certain people who are not connected with the Rugby Union, nor are even supporters of the game, were able to obtain a privilege which was denied . the ordinary sportsman. This is not said in a cavilling spirit:—it is a public injustice, and tho cause of much resentment and righteous indignation amongst those more unfortunate people who are thus prevented from obtaining seats. I think it ist lin.. * cumbent on the union to give the general public some satisfaction in this matter. I would remind its members of the maxim which' embodies the spirit of the game, , “Fair play’s a jewel.”—l am, etc.. Keen Supporter. Dunedin, August 8.

[We are positively assured that no tickets reserving' seats for the test match 1 Were ■issued before the opening of the box plan. They were not printed until the Thursday prior to the opening of the plan. This fact suggests that the tickets that were exhibited to our correspondent were tickets for the Otago match.— Ed. O.D.T.]
