■ OTAGO RUGBY UNION. The; weekly meeting of the executive of the Otago Rugby Union was held last night. The president (Mr H. Harris) occupied the chair. , - A. Thomson, referee, wrote that in the jnatch University A-Port Chalmers he bad ordered off A. Perry, of the University team, • for striking an opponent. Ihe referee and the playep appeared before tho committee. —Perry stated that a Port man had held him by the jersey after be had got rid of tho ball. •> He had then swung round to free himself, and had brought his arm round with his body. He had struck tho Port man, but he had no intention of wilfully striking him. He had afterwards apologised to the Port man.—The committee unanimously decided to take no further action in the nyitter. T . V. G. Cavanagh, referee in the TntonAlhambra match, reported F. Gantley. of the Union team, for striking an opposing player. He had previously spoken to Gantley for pushing on the line-out, and also for using bad language.—Gantley said he had no recollection of striking at a .player.—lt was decided to place the player’s name on the cautioned list, an amendment that he be suspended for one playing Saturday being lost. r . .1. Aitcheson). OTAGO FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION. The .weekly meeting of tho Otago Footbail Association, held lust night, was presided over by the chaimmn, Mr E. J. Anderson. COR RESPON DE NCE. E. Kerr, hon. secretary of the Southern Club, wrote complaining that no referees had appeared to control the games in which their Fifth Grade A and B teams took part. This was the fourth time this season that teams from their club had suffered in this way..—lt was reported that one referee had sent an apology on tho ground of illness, and the other had not received notice nil Monday afternoon. L. Jervis, referee in the Northern v. Y.M.C.A. Third Grade match at the Oval last Saturday, wrote complaining of the existing confusion about ‘the various grounds out there owing to the fact that they are not dearly numbered. He also asked for better lighting and more clothes pegs at the Oval pavilion.—The Grounds Committee was instructed to number the grounds as suggested. E. 15. Wilson, secretary of tho Dunedin Sports Ground? Society, wrote forwarding a copy of the rules and regulations of this society,, and asking if there were any matters the association desired it to take up.— Received. E. A. Nicol wrote apologising for his absence' and expressing regret that tho Y.M.C.A. had bee.n unable to keep its fixture with Mount Zion.—Received, leave of absence granted. Tom Colo, captain of the Y.M.C.A. Rovers, wrote appealing against a Fourth Grade 1 Morning-ton player named Milne, whom they had reason to lielievo was not registered, anti was considerably over Fourth! ,Grade age.—The appeal was-upheld, the matfili awarded to Y.M.C.A., and the deposit refunded. T. Bowie, hon. secretary of the Maori Hill Club, wrote protesting against the refusal of the association to transfer two members of the Y.M.C.A. Second Grade team, which has now fallen through.—The Chairman said that was tho outcome of the rigid rule that no player could belong to two clubs in one season, but suggested a way out' of tho difficulty. SOCCER IN SCHOOLS. The Hon. Secretary of the Now Zealand Football Association wrote stating that a IbUw .ou tie subject of soccer in secondary

schools was to be drawn up and sent to all the secondary schools in the dominion. — Received. A statement from Mr T. R. Cress well, of Wellington College, appealing in the Post, on behalf of Rugby as against Hoccor in secondary schools, was read, and Mr Maclnnes stated that he had replied to the points raised. Mr Young, chairman of the Schools’Committee of the 0.F.A., said there had been Icoi4si(loral>lo dissatisfaction, anti he had been appointed by bis committee to approach the association. More interest was now being taken by teachers in echool sports, and the association could take credit for that, for it had been tint, first to organise games in the schools. There was no doubt they were up against a larger and more powerful body in the Rugby Union. Ho outlined what the Schools’ Committee had done tliis season. A nunitrer of schools bud tgrncd them down, some of them without any reason. Still, he did not think they should be pessimistic about it. They had 25 teams running in the schools this season, and the Rugby Union had 40. He thought they should use the weight limit instead of the age limit in grading the boys. The .Schools’ Committee thought the time was ripe for giving the control of the school games to the teachers. He asked the association to discuss a motion to the effect thin the school teachers at present interested, in Soccer be written to asking them to attend a meeting to discuss with representatives of the O.F.A. School-*’ Committee tho future-control of the game in the schools and the formation of a committee from (lie teaching profession to take charge of the game in the schools.—This motion was adopted. GENERAL. The Chairman and Mr Milburn left the meeting to wait on the O.R.F.U. meeting in another part of the building, asking tho for favourable terms for a match on tho Caledonian Ground next month. The deputation returned, reporting that they had had a most sympathetic reception, and hoped to get the Carisbrook Ground. ' i Mr Robinson, referee in tho Maori IlillSbuthern First Grade match, gave evidence with reference to the charge against Donaldson of violently charging an opponent. After he cautioned Donaldson he hud no further trouble. Mr Simpson said there was no reason why a man should be brought up before (be association for a mere caution. He thought the association should take a stand against the reporting of-, trivial offences by over-zealou# referees. A delegate pointed out that Donaldson should have responded to the association’s summons to appear. A discussion took place ns to whether Donaldson should be severely reprimanded or suspended until he appeared before tho O.F.A. It was decided to suspend him, several members dissenting.
