PORT CHALMERS COUNCIL

The Mayor (Mr J. M. Mr H. B. Couston reported that the driving of the Mussel Hav tunnel was completed in seven months.—Received. James F. (Hilbert applied for permission to keep a cow in Fox street. —F. O. Peters, .1. 11. Henderson, Jas. Thompson, Emily Coleman, J. Williamson, and P. Souter also applied for similar permission.—Referred to By-laws Committee. The Works Committee reported on the work being carried out in cleaning and repairing the streets and footpaths. A level had been laid for kerbing and channeling in Harrington street, from Bernicia to Borns streets. —Adopted. The Finance Committee reported that for the fortnight the receipts amounted to £lO4 13s 3d and the expenditure to £459 Os 3d.— Cr Tait said tint £4050 had been already ready in connection with the forthcoming borough loan of £7ooo.—Report adopted. The Gas and Water Committee recommended that accounts totalling £361 15s 3d be passed for payment. Everything at the gasworks was satisfactory.--Adopted. The Finance Committee brought down the estimates for the current year. Several minor amendments were made, and the estimates then approved. Mr Steve, Boreliani attended ami asked the Mayor to arrange for a meeting of the New Zealand Workers’ Union on Friday to advocate the duplication of the DunedinPort Chalmers railway, with a view to providing work for the unemployed.
