INQUEST. (Feom Oun Own Corespondent.) DANNEVIRKE, July 11. At an inquest concerning (he |death of Lucy Williams, who died on June 29 as the result of injuries received in a collision with a motor cyclist, (he evidence showed that deceased tpd her sister were riding without lights, and the former was run into by n male cyclist, who also did not have a light. The verdict .returned was that death was caused bv a fracture of the base of the skull, and the coroner strongly commented upon the practice of people riding bicycles and driving motor cars and vehicles after dark without lights. > KNOCKED DOWN BY A TRAIN. CHRISTCHURCH, July 11. Mr Richard Evans, aged 78, a well-known Kuiapoi resident, while Crossing the railway lino to .catch a train for Christchurch, was knocked down, part of the train passing over his legs. Ho was taken to the Kaiapoi Nursing Home. It is expected that both his legs will have to be amputated. A later telegram says that Evans died about midday. Ho was chairman of the Waimakariri Harbour Board, and a prominent member of the Farmers’ Union and other bodies. CHRISTCHURCH, July 11. Henry Ireson Mayo, brusbmaker. aged 19, was found 1 dead yesterday in a vacant section in a suburb with a bullet wound in his left breast.. A letter in his pocket stated deceased’s identity, and announced his intention to take his own life.
