GENERAL NEWS

A very successful concert was given by local talent on Wednesday evening last at Palmerston in aid ot Dr Harnardo s Homes. All trio performers were enthusiastically received, and encores were demanded for every item. Special mention should bo made of two young performers. Master Cyril Appleby, who played a violin solo delightfully, and received a double encore, and Master Adams, who sang a waif song in costume so pathetically that ho was called upon from the audience to take round the collection box, with the result of an addition of 35s to the receipts, making the total takings from the concert and dance £2O. The Mayor (the Hon. E. H. Clark), who occupied” the chair, gave a brief outline of the work of the homes for destitute children, and thanked the ; arfm-mers and helpers on behalf of the local secretary (Mrs J. Murray).
