SEAMEN’S DISPUTE. CLAIM FOR INCREASED WAGES. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, July 8. Tlie Federated Seamen’s Union is-claim-ing increased wages. The claims filed in the Federal Arbitration Court are as follows:—Seamen, £2O per month and keep; firemen, £2l and keep. THE FORTY-FOUR-HOUR WEEK. SYDNEY, Julv 8. The Forty-four Hours’ Court agreed to a week of forty-four hours in the following industries: —Coachbuilding (excepting motor car body-building), malthouse employees, bridge carpenters, paper mill workers, railway mechanics, and broom and brush workers.
THE LIBEL LAW. MELBOURNE, July 8. In the State Parliament’s second session} the Attorney-General will introduce * Bill to amend the libel law to protect papers when - reporting municipal bodies. tariff debate. MELBOURNE, July 8. (Received July 8, at 9.30 p.m.) The Tariff debate was resumed. It was decided to place superphosphates which ai» now dutiable at 5, 15, and 25 per cent, on the free list.
_ The House also ratified Cabinet’s decision in placing spirits for use in public hospitals on the free list.
