THE SHORTAGE OF HOUSES.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir.,— -In your article of the 20th inst. on “The House Famine,” tho landlord appears to get the most of the blame. As a landlord 1 do not consider it fair, if you let a house to a tenant, that he should sublet the rooms and live rent free when the tenant is in steady work and earning good money. When other rooms are used, as a kitchen, consider the mess that is caused. The tenant docs not care, as ho says he is only renting the place, and when you see that reasonable care is not being taken of your property, a landlord has no say at the present time under the Housing Act. I know of many more in the same position as myself who will not build houses to let until this war regulation is cancelled.— I am, etc., Landlord. Dunedin, June 23.
