ST. PAUL’S CATHEDRAL
On Sunday next Bishop Nevill will unveil a beautiful memorial window, given by their relatives in memory of Major Frank Statham, N.Z.E.P., and Corporal Clive Statham, N.Z.E.F.. The window is a two-light one, designed and coloured in modern English Gothic, and very fine in detail, the blue background being of good quality Canterbury blue. The left hand figure of Fortitude is very pleasing in expression, the young face of the warrior being symbolical of those whose memory it represents. The sword, though broken, is still held notwithstanding that its use in life is past. The right hand figure of Patriotism is that of a knight fully armed. Jn his right hand he holds a wreath of victory, the crowning effect of patriotism. In the bases are, on the left the military badge, and on the left the family crest — an arm holding a dagger aloft and the motto . “Deus adjutor meus!” In the tracery is an angel holding a scroll, the inscription being “Fight the good fight.” The inscription at the base of the windows runs as follows:—“To the glory of God. and in memory of Major Frank Hadfield Statham, aged 35, and Corporal Clive Heathcote Statham, aged 22, of the North Otago Regiment, Main Body, who fell at Gallipoli, the 9th of August, 1915. ‘ln their death they were not divided.’ ” Mr J. W. Brock, of Smith and Smith, has superintended the insertion of the window, which is of English manufacture and most artistic in conception. ' The unveiling and dedication will take place after the third collect at Matins, and will bo followed by the sermon.
