FINAL PREPARATIONS. CARPENTIER PUZZLES OBSERVERS. BETTING FAVOURS DEMPSEY. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. NEW YORK, June 21. ‘Kid Norfolk, negro light-heavy weight, las joined Dempsey’s sparring partners. Harry Grob and Mike Gibbons are also expected to join for the final 10 days' training. The champion, is doing heavy boxing daily, his sparrers receiving rough treatment. Carpentier continues to puzzle the observers. The public works it out that he is obviously intentionally ineffective. Bus sparring partners are exceedingly poor, but on showings, with them Carpentier apparently would not last a round with Dempsey. However, observers are sure that Carpentier is deliberately hiding his real ability so as to confuse Dempsey.— A. and N.Z. Cable. NEW YORK, June 8. The Wall street betting On the Demp-sey-Carpentier fight is becoming brisker. Dempsey’s backers are offering 5 to 2 on him, while Carpentier’s are demanding 3 to 1. A considerable amount of English and French money is being placed on Carpentier at the latter figure.
