DUNEDIN CHORAL SOCIETY

The committee of the Dunedin Choral Society met on Saturday night, two hours being devoted to business. The conductor (Mr Sidney" Woil) reported that the retesting of the musical abilities of members had proved very satisfactory, also that a number of ladies and gentlemen had satisfied the Test Committee and had been enrolled as active members; also that some more gentlemen had applied for admission to the chorus, and would be present lor testing of voices on the following week. The orchestra is busy on the orchestral accompaniment to • “The Wedding of Shon Maclean,” etc., forming portion of the programme for next concert, to be given in May. The membership of the orchestra has been increased by some efficient and enthusiastic players. The balance is very good. ■ There is a vacancy for a bassoon player. The acting hon. secretary reported four resignations from the chorus owing to removal to the North Island; also that the list of honorary members had boon increased. The librarian reported that copies of Sullivan’s “Golden Legend” were already on the way from London, and would be here in good time for rehearsal for the second concert. It was decided that the society accept the request to assist at the soldiers’ memorial meeting, to be held on April 12. Business to be brought forward' at the coming annual meeting, to be held early next month, was discussed. The conductor outlined his suggestions for the music, etc., for the society’s jubilee in 1922, when a great festival of music is to be held. In connection with this the society has arranged for four soloists from London, who will take part in six concerts. The business of the meeting shows that the Dunedin Choral Society is well sustaining its high ideals and meriting the continued confidence and support of the musical public.
