SYDNEY, March 19. i|n opinion is prevalent in Labour circles that a reduction of wages is imminent throughout the commonwealth to ' synchronise with the reduction, in the cost of living. Some union officials are not opposed to a reduction of the basic wage if the fall in the cost of living is in greater ratio. The employers favour a round-the-table conference to consider wages in relation to unemployment.
AN EMPLOYER’S VIEWS. SYDNEY, March 19. Ald|rman Brooks, ex-president of the Employers’ Federation, was tendered a farewell on the eve of his departure for England. He stated that he had no patience with employers who talked wildly of a general reduction in wages. This question must be considered in relation only to those industries which are unable to carry on by high wages and short hours.
