THE NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN.

The opening meeting of this year’s session of the Dunedin branch of the National Council of Women was held on Wednesday last. There was a full attendance. The resignation of the president (Miss M'Kenzie) was accepted with regret. Dr Siedeberg, expressing the feeling of all members, regretted the necessity for the retirement of Miss M'Kenzie, spoke of the efficient planner in which she had fulfilled her duties, and thanked her for her sterling v*rk in the past years. Miss M'Kenzie was then unanimously elected a vice-president. Several names were put forward as successor. Eventually Mrs Carmalt Jones was invited to accept the position, and was elected unanimously. Miss M'Kenzie then vacated the chair, and Mrs Carmalt Jonea conducted the remainder of the meeting. The business was chiefly concerned with, remits on questions of the day that would be brought before the forthcoming conference with instruction to the delegates how to vote. ’ The report of the New Zealand Educational Institute was read, dealing with the effect of'moving pictures” on young children in relation to the physical, moral, and mental aspect.
