SOUTHLAND v. AUSTRALIA. MATCH ABANDONED OWING TO RAIN. (Pe* United Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, March 17. Owing to rain the Match Australia v. Southland was not resumed, and the match was’ therefore declared drawn. The team leaves for Dunedin to-morrow. OTAGO v. AUSTRALIA. The Otago v. Australia match, which will cbmmence at Carisbrook this afternoon, is causing a great deal of interest, and should provide .an exhibition of first-class cricket. The visitors are a fine all-round combination, and the public should witness some fine exhibitions of bowling and batting. The fielding has been highly commented upon, ' being clean and neat, while their returns from the field are most accurate. The visitors will arrive by the first express from Invercargill this morning, and will be accorded a civic reception at the Town Hall at noon. The match will commence at 2 p.m. 5 and a number of lady supporters are providing afternoon tea to the public. Messrs Butler and 0. Chadwick will officiate as umpires, and Mr W. A. Rowlands will be the official scorer. On Saturday tho fame will commence at noon, and the Kaiorai Band will be in attendance, which should add considerably to the afternoon’s enjoyment.
