MUNICIPAL WORK IN ROSLYN.

I / TO THE EDITOR. Sir; —I was interested in perusing the letter signed “Long Suffering Gamma - Street,” in to-day’s issue. I very seldom traverse Boss street, and when there last 1 , was amazed to find what a huge_ job the corporation has taken in hand, involving / the acquisition of, say, 15ft from the gardens and occasionally house property on each side of the road from Mr Ewing’s fine property up to Highgate. From my information the job may take three years to complete, and it is beyond me to estimate i what sum is likely to be required rto buy out the-numerous proprietors on each side ol 'the road. If they have already been ■ settled with liberally, they -will no doubt! be quite agreeable to the work being done. I ' ani' told that the sole reason for the job is that occasional tradesmen’s and coal carts standing in Boas street have to move over when a tramcar comes along J My, impression is, that very' few Dunedinites are aware of this huge work in Boss street, arid it seems strange to. me that, while a plebiscite was called on the ques■i tion of purchasing the Boslyn trams, the ratepayers were not consulted at 4)1 about this greater question, i I feel sure that if they had been, the vote would have gone against the proposed scheme by a thumping majority. I shall be glad if some of your readers can give me the other side ■ of the question, as meantime I feel puzzled air our corporation’s action.—l am, etc.. More Light.
