CHARGE OF BOOKMAKING
TRIAL POSTPONED. FRESH JURY PANEL. (Pn Ukitto Psm» Association.) WELLINGTON. February 15. When the case against James Patterson, charged with carrying on the business or occupation of a bookmaker, was called in the Supreme Court to-day the Crown Prosecutor applied for an adjournment until Monday next for a fresh jury to be empanelled. “I propose to stand down,” said counsel, “the whole of the twenty-four jurors who served in the Martindale and Livingstone oases, and this would leave only 18 jurors on the panel. I _ make the application, your Honor. In view of the fact that the evidence in the case against Martindale and Livingstone was practically unoontradioted, I feel that this should come before a fresh jury.” Mr O’Leary, for Patterson, strongly protested, but Mr Justice Chapman said: “I shall grant the application. I think it is only nght. seeing what happened yesterday. I think the matter should oomo before a fresh jury panel.” The trial was postponed till Monday.
