“SURPRISE PACKET.”
The New Zealand production of “Surprise Packet,” a musical extravaganza, commences a season of four nights at His Majesty’s Theatre to-morrow (Wednesday). This production is entirely a New Zealand one, all the principal towns in the dominion having contributed one or more artists. It is financed by New Zealand money, and every performer is a highly paid artist. The talent is said to be absolutely the pick of New Zealand, and have been specially selected by Mr W. Lints, the producer and managing director. During the past six years 6300 performers have passed through ' Mr Lints’s hands, and theatre-goers can rest assured that “Surprised Packet” will be'a production of some calibre. The company is headed by Miss Winnie Fraser the charming young mezzo soprano and Miss Nancie Gibbs, who is said to be a brilliant violinist. In addition, there is a ballet of eight capable young dancers. The supporting performers include Daisy M'Lellan (New Zealand champion Highland dancer), Agnes Richardson (contralto), Cecily Taber (monoJogist), Dorothy Claridge (toe dancer), Sadie Browne (toe dancer), Dorothy White (the fascinating clanseusp), Peeban M'Donald (low comedienne), Dora Cooper (soubrette), Imelda Rowe (classical dancer), and Joan Wager .(sopnino). A feature of the production is the female quartet, anti “The Introducer.” which is said to he a screaming farce, introducing the waltz clog, and ragtime with fast ball-bearing skates on an electric table. The box plans are on view at the' Bristol.
