HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLEGRAM. (Pbb United Ppxsa Association.) . WELLINGTON, February 14. The Department of Agriculture has re-' ceived the following cablegram, dater Feb- 1 ruary 12, from the High Commissioner' for New Zealand in London; —• ,* Meat.—For Home-killed prices have declined owing to the’ large supply of , chilled beef. Average prices are: Beef, Is Sd; mutton, Is 9d; lamb, 2s Did- per lb; chilled beef fores realising Bd, but binds vary from IOJd to Is per lb. The New Zealand beef demand is reduced for this reason. New Zealand lamb and light-weight mutton is in active demand at full .prices. There is a report current that a large quantity of New -Zealand lamb is being re-shipped to this, country from America, arid this -is limiting c.i.f. business. There is a moderate quantity of Dutch pork on tho market, in good demand at Is 4d per lb. Butter.—lrish new made unsalted creamery butter is. selling at £l7 10a a cwt (3s 3id per lb); Irish, ex stores, at £1 cwt (3s lid per lb). The price of Banish for this Country last week was £ll 6s per cwt (2s per lb for Government butter). There is no change in th© price—£14 10a 8d per cwt wholesale and 3s per lb retail; but some retailers are selling at 2s lOd and 2s lid per IK
;■ The cheese market remains unchanged. Canadian is. slow at £7 14a to £7 18s , per cwt (la 4|d to Is 4Jd per lb); white and coloured, £7 18s to £8 cwt (approximately Is 8d per lb); Now Zealand, £7 12s to £7 16s per cwt (Is 4Jd to Is 4|d per lb); white and coloured, £7 16s to £8 cwt (Is 4Jd to Is 5d per lb). , Hejnp-—The Manila market continues dull, and prices are again lower. “J ” grade, February-April shipment, sold early this week at £4B 10s per ton. December-January to February-April shipments are now quoted at £47 a. ton. Tho New Zealand market Is weak and inactive. High point spot is now quoted at £SO; fair, £4B per ton, with speculative sellers at '£2 to £3 less for forward shipments. Wool. —At Thursday’s Government sales at Liverpool there were 15,521 hales Australian and: 5219 bales New Zealand offered. There was a large attendance of the Home trade, and, with Continental and American support, competition was keen. Seventy-five per cent, of th© offering was cleared, th© withdrawals being Chiefly scoured and slipe crossbreds, and medium and low greasy pieces. Prices were firm at tho last London sale rates. For better quality merinos and crossbreds prices were easier, especially for lower qualities. New Zealand greasy brought from 9id to Is 2d per lb. Honey.—The market is dull and depressed. New Zealand honey brought from 40s to 75s per cwt (4Jd te 8d per lb), nominal.
GRAIN AND PRODUCE REPORTS. Donald Reid Co. report. Wo held our usual sale of grain and produce ( on Monday, when prices ruled as under; Oats.—Stocks in store are light, and any lines of milling Gartens on the spot are realising 2s. 7d to 2s 8d; good to best feed, 2s 3d to 2s fid,' . _ 1 Chaff; Only prime quality chaff is in demand; light and discoloured is neglected. We quote; Prime quality, £6 to £6 7s 6d; good to best feed, £5 15s to £6; medium light and discoloured, £4 10s to £5. Dalgety and Co. report as follows: Oats.—There is still a little business passing, odd lots of heavy A Gartona for immediate delivery realising up to 2s Bd. We quote; Prime milling, 2s 4d to 2s fid; good to best feed, 2s to 2s 3d per bushel, sacks extra. Wheat.—An occasional line of the new season’s wheat is coming forward, and os millers’ stocks are completely exhausted, there is no difficulty in disposing of anything offering. So’far, the price for this season’s wheat has not been fixed; and in the meantime growers will be paid 7s 3d, 7s fid, and 7s 9d (all f.0.b.) for Tuscan, _ Hunters, and Velvet respectively, an additional payment being made as soon as prices are definitely fixed. . Chaff.—The quantity coming forward is just sufficient for the very light demand. We quote: Prime oaten sheaf, to £6 7s fid; good to best feed, £6 to £6 6s; light and discoloured, from £4 per ton, sacks extra. / •— : HORSE BAZAAR. # The Otago Farmers’ Co-operative Association of New Zealand (Limited) report having held a special working draught mares and geldings, spring-carters, and harness horses at the Bazaar, Crawford 'street, on Friday last. There was an entry of 140 horses, comprising 70 draughts. There was a large attendance of farmers, contractors, and town carriers, and the bulk of th© entry. changed hands at satisfactory prices., TJio following are some of the prices obtained: LTwo five-year-old geldings, for £ll7 and £100; two geldings, at £SO; 1, £47; 1, £45; 1, £i\ 10s; 10 geldings, from £36 to 40; mare, five years old, £SO; mare, five years old, £42; 6 mares, from £33 to £37; spring-carters, to £25; harness horses, from £lB to £2O; and hackneys, to £l6. Altogether 80 horses were sold. Scott Bros., produce merchants and commission agents, and agents for the Egg and Poultry Growers’ Association, Dunedin, report:—Eggs: Quiet; to-day’s price, 2s 3d to 2s 4d per dozen. Butter: Daily, pats, Is 9id per lb. Honey; Prime clover, bulk, 7£d to 7Jd per lb; 10lb tins, 7s each. Beeswax, 2s 2d ’ per lb. Fat, ' 14s to 21a per cwt. Poultry: Hens, 4s per pair; ducklings, 7s to 8s per pair; geese, 8s to 10s pet turkey?—gobblers la 6d, hens Is 4d, per lb. Pigs: Quiet; prime baooners, 9d to lOd per lb; porkers,/overweights, 4d to fid per lb. Hams, Is Bct per lb. Bacon, Is 7d per lb. Potatoes: Very plentiful; Oamarus, 8s to 9s per cwt. Onions: Canterbury, 12a per cwt. Chaff: Quiet; prime oaten sheaf, £6 5k per ton; medium quality, £5 to £6 per top, sacks extra. Oats, 2s 9d per ex store, sacks extra.
