ST. KILDA PUBLIC LIBRARY
The annual meeting c£ members of the St. Kilda Public Library was held last evening, Mr W. Thompson presiding. The annual report showed that there had been an increase in the membership of about 20. New books purchased numbered 131, and the total was 1174. Thanks were due to the St. Kilda Borough Council for a donation of £5, and to private individuals for pecuniary help and for gifts. The Chairman moved the adoption of the report, and said the movement was growing. They were every year adding books to the library, and the membership was increasing, though not as rapidly as might be desired. It was a question whether the subscription should be raised, lie paid a compliment to the seefotary (Mrs Laing) and to others who had done a great deal for the library. Mr Hall seconded the motion. Mr Steel advocated the raising of the subscription from 5s to 7s 6d, in order that the Horary might, advance more rapidly. The report having been adopted, he moved accordingly, the motion being lost, which means Unit the subscription remains at 5s per annum. The balance sheet showed a credit balance of about £B. The following officials v were elected: Patron, Mr T. K. Sidey, M.P.; president, Mr W. Thompson ; vice-presidents—Messrs W. B. Steel, J. VV. Dove, and A. D. Edgar; librarian,, Mr Turner; secretary and treasurer, Mrs E. E. Laing (with the heartiest thanks of the meeting); auditor, yft' W. B.
