AMALGAMATION PROPOSALS,

SYDNEY, February 1. Important amalgamation proposals are being entertained by the Australian Workers’ Union at a conference. The railway workers and the miners are eager to join the former. If this combination is effected it will bring the strength of the A.W.U. to 200,000.
AUSTRALIAN SHIPPING DISPUTE. SYDNEY, February 1. The shipowners meet to-day to consider the reply from the seamen assuring peaceful working conditions.
SEAMEN’S OFFER REJECTED. MELBOURNE, February 1. {Received Feb. 2, at 1.5 a.m.) A meeting of commonwealth shipowners decided to reject the offer of the seamen, who stated that they were prepared to meet the owners in Sydney, as the assurances mentioned by the men were not 'given. In view of this decision an early resumption of work is not anticipated.
