THE GREAT, M'EWEN
As a result of the disorganisation in the sailings of the intercolonial steamers, the season of “the Great M'Ewen,” which was to have commenced at His Majesty's Theatre on Monday, his been altered, and it is now announced that the season will commence on Wednesday next. Mesmeric and hypnotic questions have been given unusual in scientific circles recently, and the cures effected by autosuggestion by the Maori “miracle man,'’ Rataqa, have been given much publicity and. the advent of “the Great M'Ewen” is already creating much interest. To the lay mind the study of mesmerics and hypnotics have in, the past been limited, and there have certainly been more sceptics than believers, but to-day positive proofs are before ts, and even the most confirmed scoffer is compelled to admit that there are men and women who have the powers of exercising control, physically and mentally, over their fellow-beings. Although “the Great M'Ewen” treats mesmerism with all the due seriousness which it demands and deserves, he manages to include a series of humorous interludes, and, by his wonderful powers and dexterity as card manipulator, magician, and raconteur, he is said to interest, entertain and amuse bis audiences. Intending patrons are notified that seats may be reserved at the Bristol.
