The annual concert and presentation of prizes in connection with the West Yaieri School was held in the Woodside Han. lhere was a record attendanoe of parents and friends from the surrounding districts. The chairman of the committee (Mr Timms) presided and was accompanied by Ihe Rev. Mr Fordvce, who presented the prizes '.o the pupils. A first-class programme gone through by the children consisted of recitation« dialogues, action song 3, also Dutch, Japanese, and negro tableaux. The items were splendidly executed and onthusiastici.llv received. At the close of the ceremony Mr Fordyoe expressed his pleasure with the children's performance, and said that great praise was due to Miss Gillespie for the efficient manner in which she had trained her pupils. Charman (school committee chairman). The pupils, under the leadership of Mr R. Brand (head master), rendered songs, dialogues, and recitations. Lantern slides were also shown. The head master announced that during the year over £7 had been collected in the district for the school prize fund. Tho following children gained proficiency certificates:—Jessie M'Cutcheon. Margaret Driver, and Allan M'Lachlan. Special prize? were awarded as under: — Needlework—Ohrissie Roy, Jessie M'Cutcheon, and Margaret Driver; brushwork— Herbert Mowat, John M'Lachlan, Reggie Baird, and Murray Stevenson; general work in the proficiencv standard—Jessie M'Cutclieon, Margaret Driver, and Allan M'Lachlan. All the children received a gift book from the district.
