ARBITRATION COURT
In tho -wool and grain stones employees' dispute , the agreement came ,to before the Conciliation Council has been made into an award, and the court has added the Oamaru employers to the award. ~1 ,1 dressmakers and milliners' award the bonus has been _ increased to 3a per week for apprentices, improvers, and journeywomen aa from the Ist of this month. , fche private hotel, restaurant, and boarding-house employees' dispute, the court lias filed the following memorandum:—"At (be hearing of this dispute before the Conriliation_ Council a complete agreement Tvas arrived at, but when the matter came ■J?!? 1 -®, . 0 cour t it _ was pointed out that difficulties would arise in certain cases unless some modification was made in the provision that the 48-hour week should be worked by eight hours on each day, as the late night had to bo provided for.' The court has met the difficulty by a redistribution of the 48 hours to be worked in the week bv increasing the hours of the late mght by two and decreasing the hours of work on the weekly half-holiday by the same number. In the recent case before the Court of Appeal it was admitted by counsel representing the union that the place of engagement clause was beyond the jurisdiction of the court, and it has therefore been struck out of the present award."
