HEAVY RAIN IN THE NORTH
(Peb United Press Association.) ' . TAIHAPE, October 26. Heavy rain yesterday and to-day caused' some small slips on the railway between, Mangaweka and Taihape. One slip north of Mangaweka completely blocked the line for about 10 hours, but has now teen cleared. The night express from Auckland loft here eight hours late, and the ordinary express from Auckland three hours late. The night express from Wellington was held up at Mangaweka for six hours'. The slips have - been cleared and traffic resumed. Tho heavy rain of a few weeks ago caused damage in Rangitikei County "to the extent of over £3500. PALMERSTON N., October 26. ' Heavy rain has been experienced throughout. the Manawatu district during the last 24 hours, and all rivers are m flood. The rainfall for the 24- hours ended at 9 this morning wa-s' 2.3 inches, the heaviest recorded for six years. The temperature .dropped in the 24 hours from 61 to 43. It is still raining, with a cold wind.
