DRUIDISM

A most enjoyable social evening was • spent on Tuesday last, when, alter the ordinary bnsiness was discharged and two new members initiated, the lodge was opened to lady lriends who were invited and entertained by the A.D. Bro. Eusbriage and LP.A. Bro. Curtis. Dancing was indulged in to tho excellent music of Mi , J. Wyse at the piano. Harmony was oontribnted by Bros. Stanley, Trimmell, Edwards, Curtis, and Hisses Sunderlnnd. An excellent supper was dispensed by Mesdames Kusbridge and Boy. An appeal to the bencvolenoe of the. lodge from the Star of Thornbury -tor a distressed brother was responded to. v

The Otago Lodge No. 1 held its usual meeting in the hall, Eattray street, A.D. Bro. M'Cione presiding over a lair attendance. The chapter officers paid an official visit for the purpose ol holding a competition for the best delivery of the P.A. charge. Six competitors entered, and were listened to with interest. Bro. Oliver, P.A., Pride ol Jloraington, was declared the winner, Bro. Workman, jun., Enterprise, being runner-up. The judges, G-.T. Bro. Birt and Bro. Haslin, gave an instructive report of the proceedings, and received a hearty vote of thanks for their hints and advice; Eoutine business w»s promptly gone through, several brethren contributing to the harmony of the evening. The usual loyal and patriotic toasts were responded to by the visiting brethren, and the lodge closed at an early hour. Bay Lodge. Queen's drive, was attended by many representatives of city lodges for the purpose of taking part in a debate at the instance of the Chapter, entitled, "Should Sick Pay Be Increased" ? A vote was taken as to who" had expressed the best solntion of- the question, and resulted in G.G-. Bro. Walsh being declared the winner, to whom a gold trophy will be presented at the Good Intent Lodge, Hosgiel, by the Chapter officers at an early date. D.P. Bro. Rnston presided over the usual business in the absence of the A.D.

The ordinary meeting of Boyal Oak-Lodge was held in the hall, Forbury corner, A.D. Bro. J. M. Robertson presiding. The usual lodge business was transacted. The Bards reported on the condition oi sick members and pay, passed. D.P. Bro. Rusbon paid an official visit and received a hearty welcome. Intimation was received that an old and respited member, P.A. Bro. H. Norman, was at present in the Hospital, and hopes were expressed for _a speedy recovery. It was decided to hold V.A. competition. The lodge adjourned early to entertain lady friends to n social evening and dance. Bro. A. Locrie acted ns M.C., Bro. P. O'Driscoll presiding at the piano. During the evening P.D.P. Bro. Churchill, B.IL, presented P.A. Bro. A. Logie with a military hair brush for doing a second terra in the chair. A.D. Bro. Thompson presided over a fair attendance of members and visitor?. The routine business was gone through promptly for the purpose of initiating fonr candidates who sor.ght admission. Their certificates being in order, they were duly admitted into the Order with the usual ceremonies. P.D.P. Bro. Beid acted ai 'Nl.O. An invitation from Pride of Mornington was accepted with pleasure, and a number expressed their intention of being present.

A.D. Bro. Jelly presided over the usual meeting of the Pride of Mornington Lodge, and was greeted by a good attendance, including representatives from Linden, Enterprise, Boyal Oak, a largo number from LUj- nl the Valley, Gootf Intent, All Nations (Port Chalnjers), Otago, Bay. B..AJ). Bro. Whitty and his officers paid an official visit for the purpose of presenting to the Mgo the Boss Stewart Shield recently won by them. Bros. Fleming and Huston were received with Druidio welcome, about 80 members of the Order being present. The usual lodge business was gone through promptly. Four candidates sought admission, and all were received into the Order. Afterwards tho meeting adjourned for the purpose of receiving the shield from the Chapter n-Boers, and at the close refreshments were handed ronnd. During the evening several members contributed items.

Tho Good Intent Loilg<\ Mosgiel, held its usual meeting, the A.D. presiding over a good attendance. One candidate wns balloted for nnd initiated. D.P. Bro. Huston paid .an official visit and was received with a Drnidic welcome. Begrct was expressed nt the departure of P.A. Bro. Riiston for Timarn, wheie lie had seenred an appointment. This brother has been a great help to tho Jodgo by his assistance and eonnwl in many ways. The Enfcerprise Lodge started bnEmess promptly, A.!D. Bro. Workman presiding over a lair attendance. The Chapter officers will hold a competition for the best delivery of the Fnneral Oration for a gold trophy presenta>d by Bro. Steel, G.S. A bige attendance is expected from the varitme branches in and roimd the city.
